The technology behind OpenFrame was developed entirely in-house at TmaxSoft and this powerful solution has been used to rehost systems that other vendors considered impossible. Traditionally, rehosting was considered a viable option only for relatively small mainframe-based systems, typically only those under 1000 MIPS (Million of Instructions Per Second - a unit for measuring the performance and hence capacity of a system). Supports the rehosting of Fujitsu mainframe systems
OpenFrame can also be used to rehost Fujitsu mainframe systems. With full XSP/MSP JCL, ADL, and AIM support, all business logic is retained during migration and can run unmodified on OpenFrame. VSAM and Network databases are also supported for migration, ensuring full data integrity.

Samsung Life Insurance is a member of the Global Fortune 500. This company possesses over 102.5 billion USD in assets, is the 18th largest insurer in the world, and is the premier provider of life insurance in South Korea.

Project Overview
Samsung Life Insurance's primary reasons for pursuing legacy system modernization were financial. Their core business system resided within a mainframe platform that was becoming excessively costly in relation to performance, especially in the face of increasing maintenance and licensing fees. This legacy system contained all of Samsung Life Insurance's core business applications, including all of their loan, contract, and payment system applications. Thus, they needed to make sure the modernization of their system would be fast and safe. 

Samsung Life Insurance's legacy system was relatively large at around 7,500 MIPS in capacity, making this the largest rehosting project undertaken at the time. Several rehosting vendors were overwhelmed by the scope of the project, but TmaxSoft was able to accommodate the needs of the project using the OpenFrame solution.

System engineers from TmaxSoft and Samsung Life Insurance worked together to analyze the legacy system and determine the best plan for rehosting. Next, OpenFrame was used to prepare the new open system environment. The engineers then identified and cleansed the legacy system resources to be migrated. Once the resources were prepared, they oversaw the rehosting process to make sure everything went smoothly. Thanks to OpenFrame's range of migration tools and utilities, the actual migration process was more than 99% automated. The migration process was incredibly efficient, requiring only 4 hours for applications and 11 hours for DBMS resources.

Project Results
The new system went online in July 2006. On the day of implementation, zero failures and zero exceptions occurred and stability was maintained during peak resource usage periods. During the two months following implementation, daily performance and stability tests were conducted; these tests indicated that the migrated system was operating successfully.

Reduced TCO
Over a four-year period, the projected total cost of ownership for the system, which includes the cost of the rehosting project itself as well as foreseen post-implementation costs (upgrades, maintenance, education, etc.), will be cheaper than simply maintaining the previous system. Not only did Samsung Life Insurance benefit from the more flexible open system, but they will continue to enjoy the financial rewards of rehosting. The company expects to save approximately 20 million USD over a four-year period. The estimated annual cost savings is expected to reach 10 million per year by 2010.
